Bolted is an engineering company. Two of us lead it. A circle builds with us. Agents do the volume. Nothing ships without a name on it.
We started Bolted in 2012. In 2016 we joined the team behind FreeStyle Libre and took one component: the alarms. For ten years our code has woken people before their glucose could hurt them. It left us one standard: something running on real hardware, and a written account of why it is right.
In 2026 code became cheap to generate. What stayed expensive is knowing when it is wrong, on the device, before it matters. That is our bet through 2030, and the first place it matters is the alert.
So Bolted is a different shape of company. Two of us lead it and sign every line. A circle we have shipped with for a decade builds with us. Agents do the volume. We deploy as one unit, inside a company that needs the alert layer, or on tools of our own. We do not bill by the hour.
We are building Reach, the alert layer for connected health, and three tools for the Mac: Aerial, Chart and Retrace. Each ships when it passes its own tests. Until then this site says "in development", and means it.
Nobody can see 2030 from here. We claim only that when a machine tells a person something that matters, someone must answer for whether it arrived. We would like that to be us.

Name on every line
Agents write most of our code. A person specifies it, verifies it on the device, and signs it. If nobody can defend it under questioning, it does not ship.
Deployed as one unit.
Inside a company that needs the alert layer, or on tools we sell ourselves. Same people, same rule, same record. We do not bill by the hour and we do not run a bench, so the people you meet on the first call are the people whose names go on the code.
Real hardware, or it did not happen.
Demos run on the device they will ship on. The Simulator is where we start, never where we sign.
Every line has a named owner.
Agents write plenty of it, under a written procedure: a person specifies the change, reviews the diff, verifies it on the device and signs it. No client source goes to an external model without written permission.
Generated code gets more review, not less.
Plausible and correct are different properties, and the gap widens exactly where being wrong costs the most.
The speed goes to you, not the invoice.
Agents made us faster. We price the outcome, so we have no reason to pretend the work is slower than it is.

Generation got cheap. We moved to the side that stayed expensive: the alert that has to arrive.
